Signing in here to post that last video, I realized that nobody has posted to the blog since we wrapped Las Vegas. That was almost a week ago!!
If you’ve been following our tweets, you are all up to date. But if not, here’s a quick recap:
We left Vegas for Salt Lake City, expecting more road trouble. We were still weathering 100+ degree weather and hills, and regular breakdowns. About 2 hours from Salt Lake, we pulled off to check our tire’s air pressure and to grab drinks at a gas station. Unfortunately, this gas station was a bit like Hotel California: we could check out any time we wanted, but we weren’t leaving on our own. After an hour of trying to get Winnie started again, Tara negotiated a tow truck to SLC.
The 5 of us packed into the un-air-conditioned sleeper cab of the truck, and made our way to Salt Lake. Luckily, our arrival was welcomed with open arms from MDavid and Drew, who made sure we were fed, able to find our campsite, and get ready for the karaoke event. They’d also made arrangements for us to stay overnight at an RV repair shop and have Winnie checked out first thing in the morning. Seriously, what awesome ambassadors!
Surprisingly, Winnie decided to start again so we drove her to the KOA, showered and changed for WhuffaokeSLC. We were driving back from the KOA to the venue and…Winnie died again. Once again, we went from on-time/ahead of schedule to 15 minutes late with an RV that wouldn’t start.
One of the SLC ambassadors pointed out that the venue was literally 2 blocks away, and straight ahead. So what did we do?
We pushed.
That’s right, we got out, put Winnie into neutral, and pushed her the last 2 blocks to the SLC venue.
Once on site, we figured out our power situation, people began to crowd around, and we got a good hour and a half of great karaoke in!
And then, as if we were just living chapters of the bible, the sky got dark. The wind started to blow.
Yes. That’s right. A dust storm.
We tried to endure the dust but decided to pack things up, get the Winnebago to the RV repair joint, and spend the remaining hours of the night relaxing at BetaLoft. Betaloft is a totally rad new coworking space that Drew Tyler (one of our awesome ambassadors) opened just a few weeks ago.
We enjoyed some Rock Band (which is practically group karaoke), and some fresh hand-rolled sushi to wrap up the chaotic day in a rather peaceful way. In the morning, we’d get Winnie looked at by a professional and decide the fate of the rest of our trip…
